Students follow a dual certification course with the AQA. Assessment is for ENGLISH 60% controlled assessment 40% exam and ENGLISH LITERATURE is 25% controlled assessment 75% .exam.

Entry is at one of two tiers:

• Foundation (C-G)
• Higher (A*-D)

Groups are flexibly arranged according to the unit of work studied. A wide range of tasks in reading, writing and speaking and listening is organised in a variety of contexts. Media/ multi modal, creative writing, studying literacy texts, Shakespeare, novels and poetry.

We shall also develop the essential skills of functional literacy and examination techniques.

All students will be entered for English Language and English Literature, if they meet the course criteria. Students need to have the willingness and resistance to keep up with the course, as every half term there is a controlled assessment.

Students with Special Educational Needs also have the opportunity to follow a single English GCSE course.
