I was Deputy Head at Ludlow School and really enjoyed the responsibility and experience the role involved.
I decided to enrol at Hereford Sixth Form College and studies 3 A-Levels in: Biology, Business Studies and PE. Moving away from Ludlow allowed me not only to widen my friendship circle, but also my confidence and time management skills. Getting myself up and out of the door to catch the train on a cold, dark, wintry morning, is a challenge that you will need to consider if you choose to study further afield than Ludlow. But it was definitely the right decision for me.
While studying for my A-Levels, I trained as a Swimming Teacher and taught young swimmers at Lucton School and Trinity School in Hereford. My part-time job showed me that patience, understanding, being responsible and reliable are key skills, important in the workplace.
When I finished my A-Levels, I knew that I did not want to go to university. Instead, I decided that the apprenticeship route was a better choice for me. I attended an Open Evening at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association, Holmer Rd, Hereford. There was so much opportunity to talk to employers from companies, ranging from Accountancy to Engineering. There was one apprenticeship that I was really interested in. In order to be in with a chance of being successful in applying for the role, I knew that I needed to stand out and make a good impression. I put everything into this and…… I got the job! I am now on an apprenticeship programme with a large, growing IT company, outside of the local area.
My biggest achievement yet? I have been nominated for the award ‘Apprentice of the Year’.
